Charleston Trip Parent's Meeting Update

Language Arts Update 9.29.08

Today we began our unit on Tall Tales!!! During the course of the next 2 weeks, we will look closely at "the making of a tall tale". We will read many popular tales and dabble with creating our own. Tomorrow we will complete our vocabulary cards for this unit.

Language Arts: Today we were treated to a guest speaker, George Wilson. George has first hand experience of living in Tornado Alley. He and his family were living in Midwest City, OK when the record breaking F5 tornado of 1999 swept across his city. He discussed tornado formation and safety procedures. We learned a lot!!
Homework: ABC order of spelling words/study
AR- read for 30 min.

Wednesday

Language Arts: Today we completed a graphic organizer on page 47 in our practice workbooks. We listened to the story, Volcano on a cd and turned in our spelling sentences.
Homework: Complete brochure of : A Tour of Volcanoes around the world.
Read AR books for 30 minutes

Morning work-today we wrote our cards for our parents about the back to school night meeting.
P.E.-we ran the timed mile run.

Lang. arts- We took a spelling pretest and began to read volcanoes. Homework: Spell 3 times in each
Math-we did acceleraterated math then we did activity master sets 5-8.

A.R.- we read are own books silently.

lnch. read aloud-we finished the kid in the read jacket.

Social Studies: We reviewed vocabulary on landforms and studied map skills. We completed a map scale activitiy!! We estimated: Home to Denver- about 25 hours to drive, Home to NYC-about 13 hours to drive, Home to Fargo, ND- 18 hours and 20 minutes.



Math: We had to take a test on the five lessons we learned which were not hard but fun.
